Huskers 1-1 After First Day of Regionals

Kansas City, MO – The Nebraska bowling teams sits 1-1 after the first day of the NCAA Regionals.

“Today was a real struggle for most of the day,” Head Coach Paul Klempa said. “But the team responded when their season was on the line and found a way to show grit and determination to stay alive in the bracket. I was proud of how the team refused to lose when their backs were against the wall. We earned the right to play again tomorrow and for a chance to reach the final four and national final. The jitters and nerves that some of the younger players fought throughout the day today should subside for tomorrow and all of our goals are still in front of us.”

In the first matchup of the day, Nebraska faced Medaille, where they fell 1-2 into the consolation bracket. The bowlers won the first game 185-172 before falling 227-236, 174-213, 201-201 in the next three games. The Huskers went 1-1 in the last two games winning 189-181 in the first before falling 168-186.

The team won the second matchup 4-1. The Huskers won 190-164 and 209-192 in the first two games to take a 2-0 lead before losing 191-202 in the third match. They rebounded by taking the last two games 202-198 and 203-148.

Having fallen in their first matchup, the Huskers proceeded on, knowing a loss would send them home. The team pulled out a 2-1 victory to advance to round three. NU took the first matchup 4-1 after having lost the first game 133-165, before winning the next four games 184-161, 232-168, 173-146 and 213-210.

NU claimed the overall matchup by winning 3-2. The Huskers fell 148-224 in the first game before claiming the second game 217-154. NU lost the next game 198-246 before taking the last two 211-156 and 215-160.
