Husker Bowling Facility Earns National Award

Lincoln – The renovated Husker Bowling Center earned national acclaim this month, as the facility was featured in this month’s edition of Bowlers Journal International.

The Husker Bowling Center was named the “Best Modernized Center” in the United States in the 2020 Bowlers Journal International Architecture and Design Awards. The magazine highlighted both new and renovated facilities, and the Husker Bowling Center was one of nine facilities featured from around the United States.

“We are very proud to be recognized as one of the top facilities in the country by Bowlers Journal International.” Nebraska Coach Paul Klempa said. “The publication is one of the biggest voices in our sport and this is a great honor for our program. When we started planning this renovation, we wanted to create the top training facility in college bowling. We are fortunate to have the support of our administration and capital planning staff, the Nebraska East Union staff, Brunswick Bowling products, Jayhawk Bowling Supply and Hausmann Construction to make that dream a reality when we opened in the fall.”

The Husker Bowling Center has been the home of the Nebraska bowling program since the 1970s and underwent a six-month renovation earlier this year as part of the $28.5 million Nebraska East Union renovation. The facility was renovated from top to bottom, and now includes new lanes, pinsetters, ball equipment, as well as the SPECTO system, which tracks 10 data points on any of the six lanes. Other amenities for Husker bowling included a new locker room, team lounge and kitchen area, an expanded pro shop and new offices for the Husker coaching staff.

The Huskers will begin their quest for a sixth national title in January when Nebraska begins its 2021 campaign.
