Freyhof Runs Second-Fastest 5,000 Meters in NU History



Nebraska track and field senior Erika Freyhof ran the second-fastest outdoor 5,000 meters in Nebraska school history to lead the Huskers as they competed at both the Billy Hayes Invitational in Bloomington, Indiana and the M City Classic in Minneapolis on Friday. 

Freyhof finished her race in sixth place with a time of 16:18.98, which was an outdoor personal best by 20 seconds and the No. 2 time in school history. Only Sammie Resh Gdowski holds a faster outdoor 5,000 meters time – 15:45.29 in 1990. 

In field events at the M City Classic, where Nebraska’s throwers and pole vaulters are competing, Nyabuay Diew led the Big Red with a fourth-place finish in the discus after throwing a PR of 155-6 (47.41m). Tyler Brown was fifth for the men at 157-11 (48.13m). Zach Morrison led the NU men in the hammer throw in sixth place at 179-4 (54.68m), and Beth-el Algarin had the top throw for the NU women with a personal-best 168-5 (51.33m) to take seventh place. 

Kerrigan Myers and Jamieson Battistella were the only Huskers to compete in a track event at the M City Classic on Friday. Both qualified for the final in the 100-meter hurdles. 

On Saturday, the M City Classic begins at 11 a.m. and the Billy Hayes Invitational picks up at Noon. Live results for the M City Classic can be tracked here.
