Davis Claims Event Title in Close Matchup with No. 1 Michigan



The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team notched numerous career-highs against No. 1 Michigan in front of more than 3,700 fans. The Huskers fell to the Wolverines, 196.475-196.225.

Sophomore Kinsey Davis highlighted the meet with a personal best 9.975 on uneven bars to claim the title and help the Huskers to a season-best event score. 

Rotation One

The Huskers started on vault, earning a team score of 48.600. Kaitlyn Higgins led NU off with a 9.450 while Emma Spence followed with a 9.775. Kylie Piringer notched a 9.800. Kinsey Davis earned a team-high 9.850. Ayzhia Hall earned a 9.450 while Makayla Curtis finished the rotation off with a 9.725. 

The Wolverines started on uneven bars earning a team score of 49.475. Abby Heiskell led UM with a 9.950. 

Rotation Two

Nebraska had a strong second rotation, competing on uneven bars and earning a season-high team score of 49.300. The rotation was highlighted by a career-high 9.975 from Kinsey Davis, who claimed the event title. Clara Colombo matched her personal best with a 9.900 while Emma Spence set a career-high with a 9.875. Genesis Gibson and Emma Simpton each earned a 9.775 while Kathryn Thaler finished with a 9.700. 

Michigan competed on vault earning a team score of 48.275. Sierra Brooks claimed the vault title with a 10.000 score. 

The Huskers went into rotation three leading 97.900-97.875. 

Rotation Three

NU earned a 49.100 on balance beam for rotation three. Emma Spence started the Huskers off with a 9.775. Makayla Curtis notched a 9.875 while Clara Colombo earned a 9.825. Kaitlyn Higgins earned a 9.800. Kinsey Davis continued with a 9.825. Kathryn Thaler finished the rotation with a 9.175. 

UM competed on floor, earning a team score of 49.425. Sierra Brooks led the Wolverines with a 9.975, claiming the event title. 

Rotation Four 

The Huskers finished the day on floor with a team score of 49.225. 

Emma Spence started the rotation making her career-best score with a 9.850. Ayzhia Hall followed with a personal best 9.900. Makayla Curtis notched a 9.850 while Katie Kuenemann earned a 9.725. Kylie Piringer earned a 9.800. Kaitlyn Higgins finished the day with a 9.825. 

The Wolverines finished on beam, earning a team score of 49.175. Natalie Wojcik claimed the event title with a 9.900. 

All-Around Competition 

Emma Spence finished in fourth with a score of 39.275. Michigan’s Sierra Brooks claimed the title with a 39.725. 

Up Next 

The Huskers return to action Friday, March 4 when they host the Masters Classic in Lincoln, Neb. NU will face George Washington, Lindenwood and Pennsylvania. The meet will start at 6:30 p.m. at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
