Huskers Ready to Battle Top-Ranked Michigan



The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team (5-5, 4-4 Big Ten) host the No. 1 Michigan Wolverines Saturday, Feb. 26. The meet is set to start at 2:30 p.m. CT at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Neb. 

 

The Huskers last faced Michigan in 2021 when the Wolverines won 197.425-195.175. Michigan leads the series, 31-26-1.

 

Last Time Out

NU had a season-best performance at the Big Five meet in Toledo, Ohio. The Big Red also had a team season-high on floor (49.325) and matched this year’s best on uneven bars (49.225). 

 

No. 14 Michigan State took home the team title with a 196.975 while Nebraska finished in second with a 196.750, topping the No. 6 Minnesota Gophers who finished in third with a 196.500. Penn State finished fourth with a 196.125 while Rutgers earned a fifth-place finish with a 195.475. 

 

Juniors Clara Colombo and Kathryn Thaler led the Huskers. Colombo claimed the uneven bars title with a personal best 9.900 while Thaler notched a career-high 9.950 on balance beam for the title. 
 

Scouting the Competition

No. 1 Michigan (11-0, 8-0 Big Ten) return to Lincoln for the first time since 2020. The defending national champions and this year’s regular season Big Ten champions currently lead the nation with a season-best team score 198.525.  

 

At the Big Five meet, the Wolverines took home four of the five individual titles. Junior Gabby Wilson claimed the floor (9.975) and vault (9.975) titles. Sophomore Reyna Guggino shared the vault title while senior Natalie Wojcik finished first on bars (9.950) and senior Abby Heiskell earned the all-around title (39.475).

250 color changing cups will be given out at the door while supplies last.
