Black Edges Red at Nebraska Intrasquad



The Nebraska track and field team ran its annual intrasquad meet on Friday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Indoor Track, with the black team edging the red team, 94-87.
 
On the women’s side, the red team outscored the black team, 44-43. The two teams split the vertical jumps with Jenna Rogers winning the high jump (6-0, 1.83m) for the black team and Hannah Preissler placing first in the pole vault (12-5 1/2, 3.80m) for the red team. Favour Wanjoku added a first-place finish for the black squad in the long jump (18-8, 5.69m). The black team swept the throws, with Ariel Ammentorp winning the weight throw (58-6, 17.83m) and Kalynn Meyer taking the shot put (49-1 1/2, 14.97m).
 
Meghan Walker ran the 300m in 40.11 and Nieve Walsh clocked a 1:38.39 in the 600m to start the running events off with a pair of wins for the black team. Johanna Ilves pitched in points for the red squad, winning the 60m hurdles in 8.59. Running for the red team, Peace Omonzane won the 60m with a time of 7.73. 
 
On the men’s side, the black squad outscored the red team, 51-43. Mayson Conner captured the title in the high jump (7-1 1/2, 2.17m) for the red team, but the black team swept the rest of the field events. Passmore Mudundulu won the long jump (23-6 3/4, 7.18m) and Garrison Hughes cleared 15-7 (4.75m) in the pole vault to take first. In the throws, Nick Ronnfeldt won the shot put (58-0 1/2, 17.69m) and Maxwell Otterdahl claimed first in the weight throw (71-2, 21.69m).
 
Garrett Kaalund clocked a 33.00 in the 300m and Lorenzo Paissan ran a 6.77 in the 60m to give the red team a pair of wins on the track. Niko Schultz won the 600m with a time of 1:18.41 and Darius Luff cruised to victory in the 60m hurdles in 7.78 for the red team.
 
The two teams traded points in the 4×400, with the black team winning the race for the women in 4:01.5 and the red team taking the relay for the men in 3:14.82.
 
Nebraska has two athletes competing at the K-State Winter Invitational tomorrow in Manhattan, Kan. Taylor Latimer is set to compete in the women’s weight throw at 9:30 a.m. and the women’s shot put at noon, while Luff is scheduled to run in the men’s 60-meter hurdles at 12:25 p.m.
