Zimmerman Rises to Fourth in Program History



Henry Zimmerman climbed to fourth all-time in program history with a third-place finish of 69-9 1/2 (21.27m) in the weight throw on Friday night at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invite.

Alex Talley won weight throw with a launch of 72-11 3/4 (22.24m), while Maxwell Otterdahl finished fifth (68-1, 20.75m) and Zach Morrison came in sixth at 66-1 1/2 (20.15m).

Taylor Latimer finished third in the weight throw with a mark of 65-7 (19.99m), followed by a fourth-place finish by Marika Spencer (63-10 1/2, 19.47m).

Jessica Gardner cleared a season-best 13-0 1/4 (3.97m) to place second in the pole vault, while Andy Jacobs finished fourth with a height of 12-6 1/4 (3.82m).

Darby Thomas won the long jump with a leap of 19-10 1/4 (6.05m). LaQwasia Stepney finished third with a jump of 19-4 1/4 (5.90m), edging Ieva Turke in fourth (19-4, 5.89m). Ashley McElmurry and Zionn Pearson tied for fifth with a mark of 19-3 1/2 (5.88m). Rounding out the Huskers in the long jump, were Lishanna Ilves in seventh (19-1 1/4, 5.82m) and Favour Wanjoku (18-8 1/2, 5.70m) in eighth.

Micaylon Moore had the top finish for Nebraska in the long jump with a runner-up finish of 24-3 3/4 (7.41m). Michael Hoffer placed third with a leap of 24-2 1/2 (7.38m) and Clayton Keys finished fourth (24-0 3/4, 7.33m).

Nick Bryant had a time of 48.88 in the 400m to place fifth and Cory Berg came in sixth with a run of 48.97, while Daniel Mattern had a fourth-place finish of 1:20.74 in the 600m.

Kerrigan Myers led a group of four Huskers advancing to the finals in the 60m hurdles with the second-fastest prelims time of 8.54. Winsome ran an 8.58 to place third, while LaQwasia Stepney (8.59) finished fifth and Johanna Ilves (8.70) came in seventh to advance to Saturday’s final.

Darius Luff qualified for Saturday’s final in the 60m hurdles with time of 7.75, finishing second in the prelims.

Emma Algarin is headed to tomorrow’s final with a run of 7.59 in the 60m prelims. On the men’s side, Lorenzo Paissan had the fastest time of 6.75 in the 60m prelims, while Matthew Brown clocked a 6.80 to finish seventh and advance to tomorrow’s final.

Day two of the Frank Sevigne Husker Invite begins tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the Devaney Center Indoor Track.
