Wong Secures Second B1G Award

Following the Huskers recent triumph at home in Lincoln, Neb. at the Bob Devaney Sports Center, Travis Wong has earned his second Big Ten honors as Freshman of the Week, announced the conference on Monday, March 8.

Wong competed on pommel horse in this past weekend’s four-team meet against B1G opponent Illinois, and GymACT club teams, Minnesota, and Iowa, where he impressed with his talent and notched a score of 13.45, marking a career-high for the current freshman and helped push the Big Red to success.

Wong and Chris Hiser are the only freshmen to receive this honor within the 2022 season, tallying a total of two B1G honors for both gymnasts.

Nebraska is ranked in the No. 3 spot overall in the NCAA, averaging at 404.467 in the past four games, only 1.233 points behind No. 2 Oklahoma. Within the Big Ten conference, NU maintains their No. 1 rank over rivals Michigan, Illinois, Ohio State, and Penn State.

Michigan’s Paul Juda earned Big Ten Gymnast of the Week after an explosive performance this past Saturday where the junior claimed all-seven individual event titles, including the all-around. Michigan finished with a season best team score of 412.850 over Army, William & Mary.

The Huskers are on the road again back to Colorado Springs, Colo. for the second time this season to compete against Air Force and Army on Saturday, March 12 at Cadet West Gym. The meet will begin at 2:00 p.m. CT.
