The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Registrar’s office confirmed today that redshirt freshman Tristan Gebbia is no longer enrolled in classes. The news came after Nebraska head coach Scott Frost confirmed that Gebbia did not appear at practice in a press conference earlier this afternoon. True freshman Adrian Martinez beat Gebbia for the top spot, and was named the starting quarterback in a depth chart that was released Sunday morning. At Monday’s press conference, Frost stated that “we want guys who want to be here,” adding that Gebbia is a “great kid.” Sophomore walk-on Andrew Bunch is now the likely backup behind Martinez. Elsewhere at the quarterback position are true freshman walk-on Matt Masker, and UCF transfer Noah Vedral, who will sit out the season due to NCAA transfer rules. Frost cited Martinez’s “athletic ability” when giving him the nod over Gebbia. Gebbia will likely transfer to another university in the coming days.
