Tominaga Scores 23 in Loss to Minnesota

CHICAGO, IL —Keisei Tominaga scored 23 points, but the Nebraska men’s basketball team fell to the Minnesota Golden Gophers 78-75 at United Center Wednesday.

The Cornhuskers (16-16) had four players score in double figures, led by Tominaga, who had 23 points. Sam Griesel tacked on a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds and Derrick Walker chipped in as well with 12 points and five assists.

Nebraska shared the ball well in Wednesday’s game, racking up 15 assists on 27 made field goals. Walker’s five assists led the Cornhuskers.

Nebraska forced 15 Minnesota turnovers while committing only eight themselves in Wednesday’s game. The Cornhuskers turned those takeaways into 18 points on the offensive end of the floor. Sam Hoiberg led the way individually with two steals.

How It Happened

Nebraska started out the scoring by going on an 8-0 run to take an early lead with 15:41 left in the first half. The Cornhuskers then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 37-33.

Minnesota kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 52-42 advantage before Nebraska went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Griesel’s layup, to shrink the deficit to 52-48 with 13:06 to go in the contest. The Cornhuskers kept their comeback going, but Minnesota managed to hold on for the 78-75 win. Nebraska took care of business in the paint, recording 24 of its 42 points in the lane.
