Thomsen Takes First at Senior Nationals



CORALVILLE, Iowa – Six Huskers wrestled Greco-Roman on the first day of Senior Nationals Friday, with Alex Thomsen (60 kg) finishing first in his weight class. Top-10 finishers for the Huskers included Peyton Robb (77 kg) and Austin Emerson (130 kg), earning fourth and eighth-place, respectively. 
 
Thomsen, seeded at No. 9 for the event, earned a 5-3 decision victory over Mosha Schwartz in the final match. His path to the title was highlighted by a 10-4 decision win over No. 1 seed Taylor LaMont in the quarterfinals. Thomsen ended the day 4-0 overall. 
 
Robb finished above his No. 8 seed and 4-2 on the day. In his final bout, he ultimately fell to Alec Ortiz by decision, 6-1. Robb worked his way through consolation rounds, winning three straight matches for a spot in the third-place bout. 
 
Emerson (130 kg) started the day with an 8-0 technical fall victory over Jacob Evans in the Round of 16, but was defeated by Cohlton Schultz 11-0 in the quarterfinals. In consolation matches, he picked up an 8-0 technical fall victory over Jonovan Smith for a spot in the consolation quarterfinals, which he dropped by injury default. 
 
No. 4 seed Liam Cronin (60 kg) finished 2-2 at the event. In his first bout of the day, he pinned Alex Logsdon in 1:59, but fell to Chance Rich in a 10-6 decision in the Round of 16. Cronin wrestled in two consolation rounds, ultimately falling by decision to Randon Miranda. 
 
Ridge Lovett and Brock Hardy competed at 67 kg for the Huskers. No. 8 seed Lovett finished 2-2 overall at the event. In the consolation matches, he defeated Bobby Treshock by technical fall but was eliminated by Morgan Flaharty in a 12-4 technical fall decision. Hardy went 0-2 on the day, falling 10-1 to Calvin Germinaro in the Round of 32 and 3-2 to Morgan Flaharty in the first round of consolation matches. 
 
Sixteen current Huskers take the mat on Saturday, Oct. 10 to compete in the men’s freestyle division. Bouts begins at 10 a.m. and will be streamed by FloWrestling. Consolations and finals will be held on Sunday.
