Ten Soccer Players Named Big Ten Distinguished Scholars

The Nebraska soccer team produced ten Big Ten Distinguished Scholars, as the conference announced its honorees on Thursday.

Grace Brown and Natalie Cooke earned the accolade, which is based upon grade-point average from the previous academic year only, for the third time.

Brown, a senior defender, and Cooke, a junior forward, are both also three-time Academic All-Big Ten selections and eight-time members of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll.

Dakota Chan, Adriana Maldonado, Hannah Young and Ashley Zugay each claimed Big Ten Distinguished Scholar status for the second time, with Kathleen Aitchison, Olivia Brown, Kenzie Coons and Theresa Pujado receiving the honor for the first time. All eight student-athletes received Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2020, as the soccer team produced 15 selections.

To be eligible for Big Ten Distinguished Scholar selection, student-athletes must be a recipient of Academic All-Big Ten recognition in the previous academic year, must have been enrolled full-time at the institution for the entire previous academic year and earned a minimum GPA of 3.70 or better during the previous academic year.
