“Wherever and whenever” is what Nebraska football coach Scott Frost said ahead of the 2020 football season, even saying his team would line up in Uzbekistan if needed.
But maybe not really wherever and whenever. According to a Friday morning report from Stadium’s Brett McMurphy, the Huskers are trying to back out of one of the most anticipated games this fall.
“Nebraska is trying to get out of playing Oklahoma on Sept. 18, sources told @Stadium,” McMurphy said in a tweet. “The Cornhuskers have contacted other schools to play in Lincoln on that date, sources said. The game was scheduled to mark 50th anniversary of 1971 “Game of the Century” b/w No. 1 NU & No. 2 OU”.

The Nebraska program took national flack for “defying” the Big Ten Conference in wanting to play a football season when the conference had voted to postpone the season. More hits came after several players even elected to sue the league.
But football came back, and nobody was happier to play than the Huskers. Now, the team may be looking at wanting to play, but also at finding a way to lessen the load in Frost’s fourth year.
No word yet from Athletic Director Bill Moos or the Nebraska Athletic Department.
