Ohio State Transfer Tyreke Johnson Commits to Nebraska Football

Great news from DUUUUUVAL!!!!!!!!

Nebraska picked up a gob of potential when former 5-star recruit Tyreke Johnson chose to transfer to our beloved Huskers from Ohio State.

Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, he played his prep ball at Trinity International Academy. Super senior Deontai Williams also attended Trinity Int’l and was a senior when Tyreke was a freshman. Their connection undoubtedly helped Johnson choose to suit up for the Big Red.

Tyreke Johnson was the #1 safety according to Rivals out of high school. You know the last player Nebraska had that was the #1 safety in his class? Lamar Jackson. Lamar played corner all 4 years at Nebraska, while Tyreke played corner at Ohio State & will continue to do so for the Huskers. Tyreke only has 8 career tackles through the end of 2020, so hopefully he sees the same late-career renaissance that Lamar Jackson did under Confuciu-err I mean Coach Fisher.

Cam Taylor-Britt will definitely hold down one starting spot, but there is a massive hole at the other spot following the departure of Dicaprio Bootle, currently with the Kansas City Chiefs fighting tooth & nail for a roster spot.

Quinton Newsome has played solid in spot duty but is unproven. Braxton Clark has played well in the past but missed the entire 2020 season with injury. JUCO transfer Nadab Joseph had to wait until November to be ruled eligible by the NCAA, then promptly blew his knee out at Purdue. Redshirt frosh Tamon Lynum has promise but only played defensive snaps in one game last year, the blowout loss against Illinois. Marques Buford & Malik Williams are true freshman and probably won’t play much beyond special teams. Bottom line, there is an opportunity for Tyreke to play in 2021.

Welcome to Nebraska, Tyreke! GBR!
