Offensive Position Coaches – Most Wanted

I’m going to go with some other fans and say that Mark Helfrich will become the O.C. and coach the QB’s but that still leaves three coaches that need to be hired at Nebraska and I’ve got some suggestions!

O-Line: Nick Tabacca (WF) – First off, the dude calls his unit #BeefBoys and that’s enough for me to want him hired at Nebraska. In more seriousness Tabacca’s O-Lines have helped the offense set team records for passing yards and rushing touchdowns during his tenure and his 2019 O-Line gave up the least sacks per pass attempt since 1998. On the pro side he’s sent 5 total O-Lineman to the pro’s between 2019 and 2020. As a recruiter he’s a little weak but I think his coaching prowess outweighs any recruiting issues.

RB: Ra’Shaad Samples (SMU) – ELITE RECRUITER and under 30! Top recruiter in the AAC for 2021 and is number one for the 2022 class and currently ranked 21st nationally. He could single-handedly restore the Texas pipeline if he could be pulled out of Dallas. Seriously this guy is a young up and comer that will become a huge name in the future. Made 247sports’ 30 under 30 list and coached the 2020 AAC Rookie of the Year and Freshman All-American Ulysses Bentley IV at running back.

WR: I think Beckton could take over this role

QB: Helfrich

ST: I know this is the position coach you’ve all been waiting for and I think I’ve found a good one!

Grant Cain (JMU) – The first knock will obviously be that he coaches at the FCS level but his special units dominate the game. In 2019 he coached the conference’s best kicker (Ratke), led the nation in blocked kicks (9), averaged 24 yards on kick-off return (5th in the nation), and best of all Ratzke looks better this year than last year meaning Cain can coach consistency. This guy is in demand for FBS as it’s rumored he turned down an FBS offer for the 2021 season.
