NU Splits Road Trip, Dominates Penn State

University Park, Pa. – The No. 45 ranked Nebraska men’s tennis team (10-7, 2-2 Big Ten) picked up a 5-1 victory over No. 73 Penn State (13-7, 0-3 Big Ten) on Sunday afternoon to close out the two-match road trip.
 
The Huskers started off strong in doubles play with William Gleason and Leo Linquet winning the first doubles match on Court 1 over Penn State’s Loren Byers and Sam Bossem, 6-2. Nebraska clinched the doubles point on Court 3, as Roni Hietaranta and Shunya Maruyama picked up a 6-4 win over Miko Eala and Stefan Simeunovic.
 
The match between Nebraska’s Calvin Mueller and Lars Johann and Penn State’s Malik Bhatnagar and Charl Morgan went unfinished tied at 5-5.
 
Nebraska kept up its strong play in singles with Maruyama tallying up the first singles win 6-4, 6-2 on Court 3 over Eala. Linquet brought the Huskers within one point of a match victory with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 win on Court 2 over Byers.
 
Johann clinched the team victory with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Bossem on Court 4.
 
The two teams opted to finish out two of the three remaining matches.
 
On Court 1, Morgan picked up a 3-6, 7-6 (8), 6-4 win over Hietaranta to make it 4-1. Mueller picked up a strong 6-0, 6-3 win over Pranav Nemani in the No. 6 spot to make 5-1 for the Huskers.
 
Gleason’s match against Penn State’s Simeunovic in the No. 5 spot went unfinished with Gleason leading 7-6 (3) after one set.
 
The Huskers return to Lincoln for their final two home matches of the season against Indiana on Friday at 5 p.m. CT and Purdue on Sunday a 12 p.m. CT. Both matches will be at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center.
