Nebraska Football Recruiting 2021 DE Jailen Weaver Commits to Huskers

Great news from the land of earthquakes!

The Huskers added the commitment of 3 star defensive end Jailen Weaver Saturday evening. Jailen hails from Antioch in the eastern part of the San Francisco Bay Area & plays his prep ball for Antioch High. The 6’8 280 lb Weaver posted a top 3 of Nebraska, Indiana & Tennessee back in mid-September, and after a month and a half of deliberation, decided Lincoln was where he wanted to be.

I immediately notice 2 things when watching Jailen’s film. First things first, he looks every bit of 6’8 280. The size is definitely there. Secondly, dear God he is FAST for his size! Jailen absolutely explodes off the line & delivers devastating blows to the QB/ballcarrier, as evidenced by his 9 sacks & 12 tackles for loss a year ago. Jailen reportedly runs in the 4.7-4.8 range in the 40 yard dash and he looks every bit of it. This was a great recruiting win by the staff.

For a player comparison, I’ve got two guys. His frame reminds me of former Husker DaiShon Neal, who was a massive DE out of Omaha Central that we fought off Michigan to keep. He also reminds me of former Michigan Wolverine & current Green Bay Packer Rashan Gary. They both have the same kind of elite get-off & his film reminded me of Gary’s film in high school.

This recruitment was handled mostly by Coach Tuioti. Coach T came here previously from Cal-Berkeley so he knows the Bay Area up and down, and he is the defensive line coach of course. Jailen was tailor-made to be a 3-4 defensive end with his freak size & ridiculous athleticism. Once he spends some time under the tutelage of Coach Tony & in the weight room with Sergeant Duval, he will be dominating Big Ten offensive lines in no time.

Besides the aforementioned Indiana & Tennessee, Jailen also sported Power 5 offers from the likes of Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, Indiana, Texas A&M & Washington State. He was a 5.6 3 star, the 48th best strongside DE in the country & the 52nd best player in the Golden State according to Rivals, while 247 Composite had Mr. Weaver ranked as a .8577 3 star, the 48th best defensive end in the country & the 74th best player in California.

Jailen’s commitment brings the 2021 Huskers class to the 17th best ranking in the country according to Rivals, while 247 has the Nebraska recruiting class ranked the 20th best in the land & the 5th best in the Big Ten.

Welcome to Nebraska, Jailen! GBR!!!!!!!!!
