Nebraska Falls to Ohio State

Columbus, Ohio – The No. 45 ranked Nebraska men’s tennis team (9-7, 1-2 Big Ten) fell to No. 2 Ohio State (20-2, 3-0 Big Ten) 7-0 at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center on Friday evening.
 
The Buckeyes got off to a strong start in doubles play with the No. 36 ranked duo of Robert Cash and Justin Boulais defeating NU’s Nic Wiedenhorn and Calvin Mueller 6-3 on Court 2. Ohio State then clinched the doubles point on Court 3 with Cannon Kingsley and James Trotter defeating Roni Hietaranta and Shunya Maruyama 6-4. 

The match between Nebraska’s William Gleason and Leo Linquet against Ohio State’s No. 3 ranked JJ Tracy and Andrew Lutschaunig went unfinished, with the pairs tied at 4-4.  

 

Ohio State continued strong in singles, sweeping all six courts. No. 25 Trotter picked up the first singles win on Court 2 with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Linquet. No. 12 Kingsley defeated Hietaranta on Court 1, 6-1, 6-4 to extend the Buckeye lead to three. 

 

Ohio State clinched the overall win on Court 5, with Cash defeating Gleason 6-4, 6-1. 

 

The two teams decided to play out the remaining matches. Maruyama dropped his match on Court 3 to No. 15 Tracy, 6-3, 6-2. No. 63 Alexander Bernard defeated Lars Johann 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 on Court 4. Jack Anthrop closed out the evening by defeating Mueller 6-4, 6-7 (5), [10-7] on Court 6. 

 

The Huskers now head to University Park, Pa., to take on No. 73 Penn State at 11 a.m. CT on Sunday.
