Meyer, Talley Named Recipients of Mark Colligan Memorial Award



Nebraska track and field’s Kalynn Meyer and Alex Talley were named the recipients of the Mark Colligan Memorial Award from last weekend’s Mark Colligan Memorial.

The award and meet are named after former NU assistant coach Mark Colligan, who passed away in 2011. Colligan was a member of the track and field program as an athlete and coach for over 25 years, coaching a total of 74 Big 12 Conference champions and five athletes who won a combined 12 national championships.

Meyer and Talley were selected the recipients of the Mark Colligan Memorial Award, given to the meet’s Most Valuable Men’s and Women’s Thrower.

“The Colligan family is humbled and honored to have a meet in the memory of Mark,” said Jean Monter Colligan, wife of the late Mark Colligan. “It was really special this year with Kalynn winning the award and throwing her personal-best in the shot put after her father, Andy Meyer, was coached by Mark for four years in 1991-94.”

Monter Colligan was a four-year letterwinner for the Huskers in 1985-88 and won the Big Eight title in the discus in 1988.

Meyer won the shot put with a personal-best mark of 50-3 1/2 (15.33m), while Talley placed first in the shot put (64-10, 19.76m) and second in the weight throw (69-10 1/4, 21.29m).
