Lambrechts Named B1G Field Athlete of the Year

Nebraska track and field senior Burger Lambrechts Jr. was named the Big Ten Men’s Field Athlete of the Year for the second straight year, the conference office announced on Wednesday.

Lambrechts Jr. finished fourth in the shot put at the NCAA Indoor Championships last weekend with a season-best throw of 67-0 1/2 (20.43m). He earned first-team All-America honors, the fourth All-America accolade of his career and the third time being on the first team. He also defended his Big Ten indoor shot put title when he won the conference championship on Feb. 25. He would have won the competition with five of his six throws.

The Pretoria, South Africa native ranks No. 2 in school history in the shot put. Last year, Lambrechts Jr. was the Big Ten Men’s Field Athlete of the Championships and the Big Ten Men’s Field Athlete of the Year, making him the first-ever Husker men’s track and field athlete to achieve that honor.
