Kuhlkin Wins PWBA Long Island Classic

Former Husker Liz Kuhlkin won her third professional title Wednesday evening, capturing the Professional Women’s Bowling Association Long Island Classic.

Kuhklin, a Rotterdam, N.Y., native who entered the night as the No. 5 seed, won four matches to collect the $10,000 prize and earn her first PBWA title since the 2018 U.S Women’s Open. She defeated Diana Zavjalova (215-180), Stefanie Johnson (209-

205) and Dasha Kovalova (185-161) on the way to the championship match. In the finals, she had four strikes in her first six frames and then spared the ninth and 10th frames en route to a 192-190 win over Bryanna Cote´.

“It’s a revival of my career,” Kuhlkin told Bowl.com. “I really have felt the last two or three years my game has gotten better, but sometimes you need to see it on paper. To win the title kind of shows yourself, ‘You know, listen, you belong. You’re an elite player on tour.’ And, winning this today is a revival of my career. This was the Liz Kuhlkin of 2018, but now she’s back in 2022. It really feels that way.”

Kuhlkin has enjoyed a strong start of the 2022 season, earning a second-place finish at the PWBA Rockford Open in Rockford, Illinois last month.

As a Husker, she was a three-time NTCA All-American and 2015 NTCA National Bowler of the Year when she led the Huskers to the 2015 NCAA title.
