Huskers Win Five Titles at Drake Relays



The Nebraska track and field team picked up five more titles on day two of the Drake Relays on Friday in Des Moines, Iowa.

Maddie Harris got the day started for the Big Red by winning the javelin, her fourth win in four meets this season. Harris threw 165-0 (50.29m) to earn the gold medal and edge teammate Mirta Kulisic, who was second at 159-7 (48.64m). Completing the strong event for the Huskers, Madison Lueger was fourth with a throw of 147-7 (44.98m). 

Maxwell Otterdahl then took home the men’s shot put title with a winning throw of 63-9 1/2 (19.44m) on his last attempt. Alex Talley was the runner-up, throwing 63-5 (19.33m). 

Axelina Johansson made it a sweep for the Huskers in the shot put, winning the women’s title with a throw of 56-11 1/2 (17.36m). 

Mayson Conner won the men’s high jump competition, clearing 7-1 (2.16m), while Reid Nelson and Tyus Wilson both cleared 6-11 3/4 (2.13m) and tied for the bronze medal. 

Lishanna Ilves was the champion in the women’s long jump, registering a best jump of 20-7 3/4 (6.29m). Zionn Pearson came in third place at 19-8 1/4 (6.00m). 

Jenna Rogers (5-11 1/2, 1.82m) and Riley Masten (5-10 1/2, 1.79m PR) were second and third in the women’s high jump. Kalynn Meyer was fifth in the women’s discus with a new PR of 170-5 (51.94m). 

On the track, Darius Luff qualified for the men’s 110-meter hurdles final in 14.60. The Husker men qualified for the 4×100-meter relay final with a season-best time of 40.24. 

Day three of the Drake Relays begins for the Huskers at 11:30 a.m.
