Lincoln, Neb. — The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team will travel to East Lansing, Mich. for a Big Ten Conference tri-meet with Michigan State and Ohio State. The Huskers, Spartans and Buckeyes will meet in the Jenison Field House on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 1 p.m. The meet will be streamed on BTN+.
The Huskers last took on Penn State on the road last Saturday, where they took home their first win of the season in a hard-fought victory. Nebraska outlasted the Nittany Lions by a score of 195.250-195.100. NU was led by a beam trio of Kynsee Roby, Makayla Curtis and Kaitlyn Higgins, who all took home a share of the event title in the final rotation.
Ohio State dropped its first two meets of the season against Michigan and Iowa, and looks to pick up the program’s first victory of the year. Michigan State has yet to compete in 2021, as its first meet against Maryland last weekend was postponed.
Nebraska was originally slated to face only Michigan State on Saturday. However, due to a change in Ohio State’s schedule, the Buckeyes were added to the meet, upping the stakes of the event.
NU looks to build upon the momentum it gained from its close victory last week and leave Jenison Field House with two important Big Ten Conference wins.
Following the Huskers’ meet in East Lansing, Nebraska returns home to the Bob Devaney Sports Center for a matchup against Rutgers on Feb. 7 at 4 p.m. CT.

SCOUTING MICHIGAN STATE
Michigan State has yet to compete in 2021, as a meet between the Spartans and Maryland was postponed last week. MSU is the last program in the Big Ten Conference that has yet to compete this season. Freshman Baleigh Garcia and sophomore Nyah Smith were named Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch prior to the season, and MSU will lean on them in its first meet of the year.
SCOUTING OHIO STATE
Ohio State enters this meet as the No. 26 program in the nation in the Road To Nationals rankings. The Buckeyes opened their season strong against Michigan, suffering a tough loss by a score of 197.225-196.000. OSU struggled in its second meet of the year against Iowa, losing by a score of 196.550-193.800. The Buckeyes look to bounce back with wins over two conference foes on Saturday.
NEBRASKA ENTERS WEEK THREE RANKED NO. 33
The Huskers enter this meet at Michigan State as the No. 33 program in the country, according to the Road To Nationals rankings. NU bounced back from a difficult first meet with a much stronger performance in week two. Nebraska looks to ride that wave of momentum heading into this week’s tri-meet.
ROBY RANKED NO. 21 ON BALANCE BEAM
Senior Kynsee Roby, following stellar beam performances against Illinois and Penn State, ranks 21st in the nation on the apparatus. Roby won at least a share of the event title in Nebraska’s first two meets and looks to build upon the strong foundation she has set so far in 2021.
YOUTH SHINES FOR NU EARLY IN SEASON
Nebraska’s freshmen performed well during the first two weeks of the season, and the Huskers will rely on them to continue their development in this weekend’s tri-meet. Chloe Lorange once again competed in the all-around against Penn State, while Kinsey Davis and Danielle Press provided crucial depth for NU.
NU RANKED THIRD IN BIG TEN PRESEASON POLL
The Huskers enter the 2021 season as the No. 3 ranked team in the Big Ten Preseason Coaches’ Poll. Michigan and Minnesota claimed the top two spots in the poll, while Iowa and Illinois round out the top five.
BIG TEN SCHEDULE IN 2021
The Big Ten Conference announced that its members will participate in a conference-only regular season. Week one of the season for Nebraska will serve as a non-conference meet against Big Ten foe Illinois. Weeks 2-7 will serve as the Big Ten regular season, with the Big Ten regular season champion being crowned at the Big Five meet. Weeks eight and nine include non-conference meets against Big Ten opponents.
ROBY, DAVIS NAMED GYMNASTS TO WATCH
The conference announced that senior Kynsee Roby and freshman Kinsey Davis were selected as Nebraska’s Big Ten Women’s Gymnasts to Watch for the 2021 season.

ROSTER OUTLOOK
The Huskers welcome back three seniors for the 2021 season. Makayla Curtis, Anika Dujakovich and Kynsee Roby will serve as veteran leaders for the program. The lone junior on the Huskers’ squad is newcomer Kaitlyn Higgins, who started her career at Minnesota and will add depth for NU on beam and floor.
Nebraska’s sophomore class consists of Clara Colombo, Kathryn Thaler and Kylie Piringer. Piringer looks to build upon the strong foundation she set during her freshman campaign after being named a second team All-Big Ten selection following the 2020 season. Head coach Heather Brink also welcomes six freshmen, Martina Comin, Kinsey Davis, Joanne De Jesus-Cortes, Chloé Lorange, Danielle Press and Caroline Williams.
