Huskers Take Home Three Event Titles at Tri-Meet



East Lansing, Mich. — The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team (1-3, 1-2 Big Ten) finished third at the Michigan State tri-meet on Saturday afternoon. The Huskers finished with a team score of 194.725, while Michigan State’s 195.775 was enough to win the meet and Ohio State placed second at a score of 195.325.

Two Huskers won shares of three event titles. Kaitlyn Higgins and Anika Dujakovich each won a share of the floor title with scores of 9.875, while Dujakovich won a share of the vault title with a 9.825.

Rotation One

Nebraska opened Saturday’s tri-meet on uneven bars. Kynsee Roby and Kathryn Thaler led the charge for the Huskers on the apparatus as both recorded scores of 9.825. Freshman Kinsey Davis followed closely with a 9.80, while fellow freshman Chloe Lorange scored a 9.75. Sophomore Clara Colombo ended her routine with a score of 9.475, while Kylie Piringer recorded a 8.95, which was not counted.

Ohio State jumped out to an early lead as the Buckeyes held a score of 48.850. Nebraska ended the first rotation in second at 48.675, while Michigan State recorded a team score of 48.625.

Rotation Two

The Huskers struggled in the second rotation on balance beam. NU received strong scores from Thaler, Roby, Kaitlyn Higgins and Davis who all recorded scores of 9.80 or higher. However, Nebraska was forced to count a low score after Lorange posted a score of 9.15 and Makayla Curtis scored a 9.025.

Ohio State held the lead by a score of 97.900 to MSU’s 97.625 and Nebraska’s 97.125 heading into the third rotation.

Rotation Three

On floor, the Huskers were led by Dujakovich and Higgins who both won a share of the event title with scores of 9.875. Curtis followed closely with a 9.85, while Lorange finished with a 9.775. Danielle Press anchored the Huskers with a score of 9.55, while Piringer recorded a 8.95, which was not counted.

Ohio State held on to their lead heading into the final rotation with a score of 146.875 to Michigan State’s 146.650 and Nebraska’s 146.050.

 

Rotation Four

The Huskers ended their afternoon on vault, where Dujakovich took home a share of the event title with a 9.825. Davis recorded a 9.80, while Piringer ended her day with a 9.75 on vault. Curtis picked up a score of 9.675 and Lorange ended her all-around afternoon with a 9.625 in the final rotation. Press finished off the afternoon with a 9.325, which was not counted.

Michigan State finished in first place with a team score of 195.775 to OSU’s 195.325 and NU’s 194.725.

Nebraska returns home to the Bob Devaney Sports Center next week for another Big Ten matchup with Rutgers. The meet will begin at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb 7 and will be streamed on BTN+.
