Huskers Top Wildcats, 3-1 – University of Nebraska


Lincoln, Neb. – Sophomore Sarah Weber led the Huskers with three points, as the Nebraska soccer team defeated Weber State, 3-1, at Hibner Stadium on Sunday afternoon. 
 
The Husker offense was in control the first half and in the 17th minute, freshman Lauryn Anglim recorded her first point of her Husker career as she shot a corner kick into the top of the goal box. Weber gathered the pass and headed into the back right corner of the net for her second goal of the season. 
 
NU (2-1-1) extended its lead in the 33rd minute with a goal by sophomore Haley Peterson. Florence Belzile dribbled through the Wildcat defense and passed the ball to Peterson who took a shot from the middle of the penalty box and found the back of the net.
 
At the break, the Huskers held the advantage in shots (13-4), shots on goal (4-1) and corner kicks (5-2). 
 
To start the second half, the Huskers maintained the 2-0 lead until Weber State’s Brynlee Meyerhoffer scored in the 54th minute off assists from Alaina Wildenradt and Rylee Tatton. 
 
In the 58th minute, Reagan Raabe extended NU’s lead back to two with a goal off an assist from Sarah Weber. Weber found Raabe inside the penalty box, where Raabe then gathered and scored. 

Junior Sami Hauk recorded two saves on the afternoon in 90 minutes of play.

 

Overall, the Huskers outshot Weber State (0-3-0) by a 19-9 margin. NU also held the 6-3 advantage in shots on goal. 

The Big Red returns to action this week at home when it hosts Portland on Thursday at Hibner Stadium. The match will kick off at 7:05 p.m. (CT).
