Huskers Start Season at No. 20 Iowa State

The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team is set to take on the Iowa State Cyclones this Friday, Jan. 7 at 6:30 p.m. CT at the Hilton Coliseum. This is the first regular season meet in 2022 and the first time the Huskers will face a non-conference opponent since taking on Missouri on March 7, 2020.

The last time the two teams met was in 2018 when the Huskers outscored the Cyclones 197.175-195.575. NU currently leads the series 98-14-1.

Last Time Out

NU is ready for the first full-season of competition since 2019. The Huskers saw a shortened season in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic and in 2021 due to the Big Ten’s conference-only scheduling.

Nebraska is led by their four seniors who combined for 12 individual titles in 2021. Kynsee Roby, a first-team All-Big Ten selection, claimed five event titles, (three on beam and two on bars) in 2021. Anika Dujakovich, a second-team All-Big Ten selection, earned four event titles in 2021 (three on vault and one on floor). Kaitlyn Higgins added two titles (one on beam and one on floor), while Makayla Curtis claimed a title on beam.

Scouting the Competition

The Cyclones return 19 gymnasts from a 2021 NCAA Regional squad. Iowa State went 10-8 during last year’s campaign. The Cyclones ended the season ranked No. 21 on RoadToNationals, marking the fourth-straight season ISU has finished in the Top 25, the second-longest end-of-the-season run in program history.

Iowa State is led by 10 seniors who are looking to make an impact in the lineup.
