Huskers Sign Kathryn Bowman – University of Nebraska

Lincoln – The Nebraska Bowling program announced Wednesday that Kathryn Bowman (Peru, N.Y.) has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to bowl for the Huskers beginning with the 2022-23 season.

Bowman was selected to the 2021 Dexter High School All-American team after averaging a 218 last season, and was the only Junior on the 2021 squad. She has competed on the Peru High School team since she was in seventh grade, and has a career average of 201.8 in that time.  Bowman has a high game of 299 and a high series of 764. Among many accomplishments, she was a top 16 finisher in 2019 Junior Gold, a 2021 DV8 Scholarship Shoot Out U18G champion, an NYS Pepsi top-4 qualifier from 2017-21 and a three-time USBC Junior Gold participant (2017, 2019, 2021).

“Kathryn will make an excellent addition to our Husker family,” Nebraska Head Coach Paul Klempa said. “She is the top student in her high school class and an excellent player. She also comes from a very supportive family that is excited for her future. Kathryn has an impressive athletic resume both in high school and on the national scene and we expect her to make an impact on our program very early on. The team and coaches are all thrilled Kathryn decided to be a Husker.”

Academically, Bowman is top of her class of 125, a National Honor Society member, her school’s President for the National Art Honor Society, an AP Scholar, and a High Honor Roll honoree. She will study biochemistry at Nebraska.

“I toured Nebraska over the summer and absolutely fell in love with the campus and the whole atmosphere,” Bowman said. “I was lucky enough to meet some of the girls, and they were unbelievably welcoming. Nebraska not only offers great opportunities for bowling, but for academics as well. Out of all the colleges, Nebraska had the perfect mixture of athletic and academic benefits. I knew that Nebraska would be my home as soon as I was on campus.”

Kathryn is the daughter of Rick and Velvett Bowman and has two older brothers: David and Jonathan.
