Huskers Showcased at Final Intrasquad



Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team held an intrasquad meet at the Allen Training Complex on Monday. The Huskers competed on all four events in Olympic order. No official team scores were given. 

The Huskers welcome back four seniors to the 2022 squad. Kynsee Roby, a first-team All-Big Ten selection, is expected to contribute in the all four events. Roby claimed the night’s high score on both vault and uneven bars. Makayla Curtis competed on vault, beam and floor, and will be a consistent contributor this season. Kaitlyn Higgins and Anika Dujakovich round out the senior class and are both expected to be vital to the 2022 squad. 

The Huskers will also return three juniors from the 2021 season.  Clara Colombo, who competed on uneven bars and beam, looks to build upon the foundation laid her sophomore season. Kylie Piringer competed on vault and floor and looks to provide consistency for Nebraska. Kathryn Thaler claimed the night’s highest score on beam. She also competed on bars tonight. 

Four sophomores returned to action at the intrasquad. Martina Comin competed on vault and floor, and is expected to add depth to the lineup after being sidelined due to an injury during the 2021 season. Kinsey Davis competed on vault, uneven bars and beam, and is expected to be a consistent contributor in 2022. Joanne De Jesus-Cortes rounds out the sophomore class and is looking to make an impact this year. 

Brink welcomes seven freshmen to the 2022 squad. Emma Spence, a Cambridge, Ontario, native, competed on all four events and claimed the highest floor score of the night. Spence is looking to make an immediate impact for Nebraska. Genesis Gibson, a Prosper, Texas native, competed on uneven bars and will look to add depth to the lineup. Emma Simpton, a Dallas, Texas, native, competed on bars and beam, and will look to contribute this season as well. Ayzhia Hall, a Rogers, Ark., native, competed on vault and floor, looks to make an impact this year. Katie Kuenemann (Longview, Texas), Halle Rourke (Waverly, Neb.) and Savanah Warren (Parker Colo.) are all expected to compete for a spot in the lineup this season. 

The Huskers will begin the 2022 season in Ames, Iowa against No. 20 Iowa State on Friday, Jan. 7. The meet will be streamed on ESPN+. Nebraska will hold its first home meet of the season on Saturday, Jan. 15 against No. 19 BYU at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
