Huskers Set for Big Ten Tournament

The Nebraska softball team (33-19, 13-10 Big Ten) is set to travel to Champaign, Ill., for the Big Ten Tournament this week, May 10-13. The Huskers go in as a No. 4 seed, receiving a bye for the first round of the tournament. NU will take on the winner of No. 12 Illinois and No. 5 Wisconsin on Thursday, May 11, at 7 p.m. (CT).
All tournament games will be broadcasted live on the Big Ten Network. Fans can listen to the action live on the Huskers Radio Network and Huskers.com with the call from Nate Rohr.
The Huskers enter the Big Ten Tournament as the defending champions. In 2022, Nebraska claimed its first Big Ten Tournament title with a 3-1 victory over Michigan in eight innings.

Nebraska’s offense is currently ranked in the top three in the Big Ten in batting average (.311), hits (436), home runs (57) and slugging percentage (.502). Freshman Katelyn Caneda has lead the Big Red offense through the regular season, holding a .382 batting average, a mark that ranks sixth in the conference. Junior Billie Andrews has added 63 hits, 45 runs and 15 home runs.

Senior Courtney Wallace (22-13) has been a leader in the circle for Nebraska, appearing in 197.0 innings. She has tallied 122 strikeouts while pitching 19 complete games. Wallace is second in the Big Ten victories with 22. Sarah Harness (10-5) has added 100.1 innings of work, adding 91 strikeouts for the Huskers.

Huskers in the Ranks

    • Nebraska is second in the conference in batting average (.311) and 27th in the nation.

 

    • The Huskers are tied for third in the Big Ten in shutouts with 11 and are ranked 42nd in the NCAA.

 

    • NU ranks third in the Big Ten and 27th in the nation with a .503 slugging percentage.

 

    • Katelyn Caneda is sixth in the conference with a .383 batting average, a mark that leads the Big Red.

 

 

 

 

    • Courtney Wallace is second in the Big Ten with 22 victories. She ranks ninth in the NCAA as Megan Faraimo of UCLA leads the nation with 28 wins.

 

Nebraska Quick Hits

    • Eight of Brooke Andrews’ 11 home runs came in the fourth inning or later this season.

 

 

    • Billie Andrews has tallied 15 home runs this season. She is now sixth all-time in Nebraska history in career homers with 42.

 

    • Andrews is one of 12 returning players in the NCAA who hit 20 or more home runs last season.

 

    • Sarah Harness recorded a no-hitter against New Mexico on Feb. 24, 2023. It marked the first no-hitter by a Nebraska pitcher since 2016.

 

    • Sarah Harness has tallied 91 strikeouts this season and has combined for over 500 in her career including her three seasons at Southern Illinois.

 

    • Mya Felder is the only returning Big Ten player who received All-Big Ten, All-Defensive and All-Tournament honors in 2022.

 

    • Courtney Wallace is one of six returning Rawlings/NFCA Gold Glove recipients from last season.

 

Big Red Records

    • Nebraska has tallied 84 doubles this season, a number that ranks fourth in school history.

 

    • The Huskers have added 148 extra-base hits this season, a mark that is fourth in NU history.

 

    • Courtney Wallace has recorded the most wins in a season since 2014 when Tatum Edwards finished the season with a 24-13 record.

 

    • Wallace has moved to 10th all-time in school history with 56 career wins in the circle.

 

    • Wallace is also 10th all-time in NU history in innings pitched with 608.0 innings of work.

 

    • Wallace is tied for sixth all-time in school history in career saves with nine.

 

    • Billie Andrews has tallied 42 career home runs, a total that ranks sixth all-time in NU history.

 

    • Andrews is tied for 10th all-time in extra-base hits with 68.

 

    • Andrews became the third Husker to record two seasons with 15 or more homers joining Ali Viola and Taylor Edwards as the only NU players to do so.
