Huskers Set for Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate

The Nebraska women’s golf team caps a three-tournament in 14-day stretch when the Huskers travel to New Orleans for the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate, March 14-16.

The 13-team event opens Sunday, March 14 with tee times starting at 9 a.m. (CT) at English Turn Golf and Country Club. The tournament’s second round will follow a similar schedule on Monday, before concluding with an 8 a.m. (CT) shotgun start in the final round on Tuesday.

Live scoring for the tournament will be available at GolfStat.com

The tournament field includes Big Ten counterparts Rutgers and Wisconsin, along with the hosts from Tulane, Central Arkansas, Chattanooga, Louisiana Monroe, Loyola (La.), McNeese, Southern Miss, Seton Hall, SMU and Texas State.

Kate Smith, a fifth-year senior from Detroit Lakes, Minn., is hunting for her second career NCAA Regional bid. Nebraska’s career stroke average leader (73.49), Smith has opened 2021 with two top-10 finishes. She tied for third at the Trinity Forest Invitational in Dallas, Texas (Feb. 1-2), before taking sixth against a loaded field in challenging scoring conditions at the Bruin Wave Invitational (March 1-3).

Most recently, Smith led the Huskers with a tie for 21st at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational in Tucson (March 8-9).

Freshman Michaela Vavrova added a breakthrough performance in Arizona, matching Smith with a career-best three-round total of 219 that included a career-best 70 (-2) in the second round.
