Huskers Send Four to NCAA Championships



Lincoln, NE- The Nebraska swimming and diving team put another exclamation point on the best Big Ten finish in school history, sending four athletes to the NCAA Championships in Greensboro, NC.

Husker swimmers Autumn Haebig and Audrey Coffey both make their return to the Championships in 2021, after qualifying last season as well.

Haebig, a senior from Grafton, WI. won Nebraska’a first Big Ten swimming title in school history in the 200 freestyle (1:44.39) a few weeks ago. She qualified in two events, appearing in the 200 and 500 free.

This is her third time qualifying for NCAAs, after swimming in three events as a freshman for the Huskers.

Coffey, a junior from Naperville, IL. returns to the NCAAs after another great performance in the long distance races. She qualified in the 1650 freestyle for the second year in a row with her time of 16:19.73.

Coffey was originally an alternate in last years 1650 freestyle race and made it in before the seasons end.

The Huskers are also sending two divers to the NCAA postseason. Abi Knapton and Sara Troyer finished with great performances in the NCAA Zone Diving event this past week and will move on to Greensboro with Haebig and Coffey.

Knapton returns to NCAAs after taking a redshirt year in 2020, appearing for the fourth time in her career. Knapton’s comeback featured her winning the one meter and platform dive, the first two Big Ten diving titles in school history, while finishing as the runner up in the three meter.

The redshirt senior from Omaha is appearing at NCAAs in the one meter, three meter and platform after placing 12th (558.75), 4th (686.60) and 3rd (619.45), respectively.

Sara Troyer, a junior out of Goshen, IN.  qualified for the NCAA postseason for the second straight year. She finished in third place in the one meter dive at the Big Ten championships this season, after grabbing fifth in the three meter a year ago.

Troyer qualified for the one meter and three meter at the NCAA Zone Diving meet, scoring 10th in the one meter (561.15) and 12th in the three meter (617.50).

All four Husker athletes are already CSCAA All Americans and have a chance to repeat the honor this season.

The NCAA Championships are set to begin on Wednesday, March 17 and run through Saturday, March 20 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, NC.
