Huskers Ready to Host Big Five Meets



The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team is set to host the Big Five Meets this weekend, Feb. 24-25. Both sessions will take place at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Neb., and will be televised nationally on the Big Ten Network. 

 

Nebraska will compete during Session II on Saturday, Feb. 25, at Noon (CT).  NU will take on No. 13 Ohio State, No. 18 Minnesota, No. 19 Michigan State and Rutgers. 

 

Session I will take place on Friday, Feb. 24, and will feature No. 23 Illinois, No. 20 Iowa, No. 21 Maryland, No.3 Michigan and Penn State. Session I is set to begin at 7 p.m. (CT). 

Last Time Out

NU is coming off of a conference loss to Penn State. The Nittany Lions claimed the victory with a score of 196.350 while the Huskers finished the meet with a team score of 196.325.

Despite the loss, the Big Red took home three event titles. Martina Comin claimed the vault title with a score of 9.850. Emma Simpton finished in first on beam with a 9.925, while Emma Spence notched a career-best in the all-around with a 39.425  to take home the individual title on the event.  
 

Scouting the Competition

The Huskers are set to face three top-20 opponents as well as Rutgers during the Big Five meet this Saturday. No. 13 Ohio State comes into the meet leading the conference with a 10-1 record. The Buckeyes only loss is to No. 3 Michigan. No. 18 Minnesota and No. 19 Michigan State are both 3-1 in the Big Ten, with the Gophers falling to the Wolverines and the Spartans dropping a meet to No. 20 Iowa. Rutgers will look for its first conference win of the season this weekend as the Scarlet Knights hold a 5-12 record.
