Huskers Prepare for Music City Classic

Lincoln – The Nebraska bowling team is preparing to compete at the Music City Classic this Friday through Sunday, March 5-7.

“The team is excited to compete again this weekend in Nashville,” said Head Coach Paul Klempa. “Vanderbilt always hosts a competitive field full of top teams in the country and this weekend is no exception. We plan to continue to build on last weekend’s performance where three of our five starters finished in the top 10 individually and the team performed at a very high level. The team knows they are trending the right direction,’and they look forward to showing that again this weekend.”

The Huskers look to face the toughest competition they’ve seen this season, as 15 of the 19 teams are ranked in the top 25.

The 19-team field consists of top-ranked McKendree, No. 2 Vanderbilt, No. 4 Nebraska, No. 5 Louisiana Tech, No. 6 Sam Houston State, No. 9 Maryville, No. 10 Stephen F. Austin, No. 11 Lincoln Memorial, No. 12 Tulane, No. 13 North Carolina A&T, No. 16 Alabama State, No. 19 Valparaiso, No. 22 Central Missouri, No. 23 Kentucky Wesleyan, No. 24 Wisconsin-Whitewater, Jackson State, Spalding, Tusculum and UAB.

At the Big Red Invite last weekend, Kayla Verstraete placed third, Crystal Elliott placed fourth and Cassidy Ray placed seventh.

On Friday, NU will begin the day by facing Spalding and Tulane before having a bye as No. 3 Arkansas State was not able to make the tournament. The Huskers will round out the day against No. 19 Valparaiso and No. 2 Vanderbilt.

Saturday will start as the bowlers take on No. 5 Louisiana Tech, UAB and No. 10 Stephen F. Austin. NU will match up against Tusculum before the last match of the day versus No. 6 Sam Houston State.

Bowling will begin at 9:40 a.m. Friday morning, 9:30 a.m. on Saturday before rounding things out at 9 a.m. Sunday morning.
