Huskers Open Stroke Play in San Diego

The Nebraska men’s golf team begins the stroke play portion of its 2021 spring collegiate schedule when the Huskers travel to California for the Lamkin San Diego Classic, March 8-10.

The Huskers hope to contend in a strong 20-team field that includes 14 top-100 teams, including four schools ranked among the nation’s top 50.

The Big Red and the rest of the tournament field will attack a challenging 7,033-yard, par-72 layout at the San Diego Country Club.

The teams will play single rounds on each of the three days of the tournament, beginning with tee times off No. 1 and No. 10 at 9:10 a.m. (CT). Live scoring for the event, which is co-hosted by San Diego State and the University of San Diego, will be available at GolfStat.com.

Nebraska’s five-player lineup in count-four scoring will be led at the top by freshman Jack Lundin, followed by experienced Huskers Branden Meyer, Mark Foelbaek and Tom Westenberger in the 2-4 positions. Redshirt freshman transfer Jeremy Sisson rounds out the Husker contingent for third-year head coach Mark Hankins.

The Big Red got an early taste of the conditions in San Diego by playing in the Challenge at Rancho (Feb. 27) at the Rancho Santa Fe Country Club. The weekend trip to San Diego followed Nebraska’s season-opening competition at the Big Ten Match Play Championships in Jacksonville, Fla. (Feb. 5-6).

Lundin, a true freshman from Sioux Falls, S.D., led Nebraska with a 3-1 individual record at the Big Ten Match Play Championships.
