Huskers Look to Make Waves at Big Tens

Madison, Wisc. — The Nebraska swimming and diving team is set for four days of vying for the top placements among the conference as the Huskers get ready for the 2022 Big Ten Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Madison, Wis., this week. The meet will begin Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. (CT) at Soderholm Family Aquatic Center and will run through Saturday.

Big Ten swimmers will go head-to-head in the 200 medley relay and 800 freestyle relay on Wednesday night. Starting Thursday, preliminary races will be held at 10 a.m. and finals will begin at 5:30 p.m. each day.

At the 2021 conference championships, fifth-year senior Autumn Haebig captured the first Husker Big Ten Conference individual title when she placed first in the 200 free. The Wisconsin-native also swam to fifth in the 500 free and ninth in the 100 free.

Sara Troyer is a key component to the Husker squad in the diving well. Last year she placed third in the one-meter and 10th in the three-meter. The senior from Goshen, Ind., has 10 titles on the season.

Audrey Coffey swam to 10th in the 1650 free and 14th in the 500 free to lead the distance corps during last season’s championships. She was joined by Maggie Berning in the 500 free who finished 21st, in addition to her 15th-place finish in the 200 fly.

Ella Stein scored in both breaststroke events last season, while Shannon Stott earned a spot in the C-finals in the 200 fly. Kimberly Lanaghen, Berkeley Livingston, Madesyn Ronquillio, Katelyn Kilpatrick and Lexi Kucera round out the returning individual scorers.

Joining them is a solid freshman class featuring Maia Hall, Ilaria Murzilli, JoJo Randby, Bea Padron, Sydney McCracken and Madison Lloyd. The six-member class has continuously cut time and proven that they can compete with the best.

Adding depth to the Big Red is Sarah Barton, who has shown versatility this season and notched 19 top-five finishes, Gabby Donahue, a big contributor in the backstroke, Emily Haimes, a top-sprinter transfer from West Virginia, and Molly Rosenthal, who has shown her talent in the distance events.

Fans can access the livestream through Big Ten Network Plus during each day of competition.
