Huskers Keeping Energy Up In Final Week of Fall Camp

It’s the final week of fall camp for Nebraska. The Huskers could almost be forgiven for letting their foot off the gas pedal before they have to fully get into game prep, however, that wasn’t the case Monday morning for NU, or really, any other practice.

“There hasn’t been one day that I’ve been disappointed with the energy of the team,” Chinander told reporters following Nebraska’s practice. “We definitely got a lot of things to work on and we aren’t there but the energy has been really good.”

Chinander attributes the positive attitude and approach to practice to the cultural shift that head coach Scott Frost has continued to work on since he took over in December of 2017.

“I didn’t see any mush faces out there. I didn’t see any gloomy Gus’s. I didn’t see any of that. Credit to Coach (Scott) Frost. The culture on the team is… I don’t know if it’s where he wants it but it’s much much better…”

In other news and notes from practice:

  • Jahkeem Green is in full pads now. The 6-foot-5, 315 pound defensive lineman just joined Nebraska last week.
  • The Huskers unveiled their alternate uniforms Monday morning. The Blackshirt inspired uniforms feature a black top, a black “N” on the helmet instead of the traditional red and the skull and crossbones logo on the shoulders. “I think it’s pretty cool that Coach Frost has embraced that tradition,” Chinander said.
  • Although the Huskers cracked the AP preseason Top 25 for the first time in five years, Chinander isn’t under any illusion his squad doesn’t have work to do. “We haven’t done anything yet. I just assumed we weren’t ranked… we’re a 4-8 football team until we get into the season.”
