Huskers Improve to 2-0 with 70-38 Win

Lincoln – Nebraska took control early and used a balanced attack to beat the University of Mary, 70-38, Tuesday evening at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
lt;br />Tai Webster and Michael Jacobson led a balanced attack, scoring 10 points each as no starter played more than 20 minutes and all 10 players who saw action got into the scoring column. Jack McVeigh added nine points, while freshmen Jeriah Horne and Jordy Tshimanga chipped in eight apiece in the win.
lt;br />Nebraska (2-0) did the job on the defensive end, holding Mary (0-3) to just 18 percent shooting and 3-of-18 from 3-point range. The 38 points allowed tied for the seventh-best effort in school history and the best by a Husker defense since 2007.
lt;br />The Huskers took control from the onset, scoring the first six points as part of a 16-4 game-opening surge over the first six minutes. Sophomore Ed Morrow Jr. had all five of his points in the spurt which was highlighted by 3-pointers from Webster, McVeigh and freshman Isaiah Roby.

lt;br />Nebraska, which shot 48 percent for the half, had nine players score in the opening 20 minutes, including four players with at least five points. Nebraska, which built a 34-16 halftime lead, limited Mary to 25 percent shooting in the half, including 1-of-9 from 3-point range.
lt;br />Mary closed to within 41-21 with 16:43 left before Jacobson took over, as the sophomore scored eight straight Husker points as part of a 13-3 run, as the Huskers took a 30-point lead on a Horne 3-pointer with 11:09 left and the Husker starters were all out of the contest.
lt;br />Mary, which is the alma mater of Nebraska Coach Tim Miles, was led by Bryan Jefferson�s 10 points.
