The Nebraska men’s tennis team (0-0, 0-0 Big Ten) will host Purdue (0-0, 0-0 Big Ten) this Friday, February 19, at 5 p.m. CT and Indiana (0-0, 0-0 Big Ten) this Sunday, February 21, at 11 a.m. CT for the Huskers’ Big Ten Conference home debut as NU hopes to find its winning ways against the Boilermakers and the Hoosiers. Due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, admission will not be allowed for the general public.

Scouting Purdue
• The Boilermakers finished the 2019-2020 season with a 10-7 record overall and a 0-2 record in Big Ten play, with quality wins over Marquette, Drake and Utah.
• Purdue enters 2021 with six returners featured in the singles and doubles lineups over the last two years. Joining these returners is newcomer, Milledge Cossu, a five-star recruit from Miami Beach, Fla.
• Senior Mateo Julio looks to continue last year’s success when he recorded a 5-5 record in the No. 2 position and a 1-0 mark in the No. 1 position. The Olavarria, Argentina, native has a career singles record of 30-33 with one win over a ranked opponent on March 30, 2019 against Michigan’s No. 46 Mattias Siimar.
 
Series History
• Purdue holds a 7-3 all-time advantage over Nebraska, as the teams’ rivalry started when NU joined the Big Ten in 2011-2012.
• The Boilermakers have won the last four contests against the Huskers, including a 4-0 win in 2019.
• NU last triumphed against the Boilermakers on April 17, 2016 — in a regular Big Ten season matchup played in Lincoln.
 
Scouting Indiana
• The Hoosiers closed the 2020 spring season ranked No. 37 with an 8-3 record overall, a 1-0 record in Big Ten competition and wins over Notre Dame, No. 25 Dartmouth and Purdue.
• Indiana, led by six-year veteran head coach Jeremy Wurtzman, begins the 2021 Big Ten season at Iowa on February 19. IU has a 10-game winning streak against Iowa and a 58-17 all-time record. 
• Returning for his senior season, Bennett Crane looks to continue his success in both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. The native of Huntersville, N.C., finished his 2019-2020 season ranked No. 49 in singles and No. 42 in doubles, partnering with fellow Hoosier Zac Brodney.
 
Series History
•  Nebraska won the first ever matchup against the Hoosiers on February 7, 2009 in Bloomington, Ind., but Indiana leads the all-time series 5-2.
• IU has won the last five matches against the Huskers, including a 5-2 win in 2019.
 
Moreno Steady At No. 1
• Last season, junior Victor Moreno Lozano took over the No. 1 spot and competed at the top of the lineup in nine of Nebraska’s 12 matches. He finished the year even with a 12-12 overall record.
• Most notably, Moreno clinched a match for the Huskers in a 4-3 win over UTSA, as he defeated Kai Breitbach in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
• The Madrid, Spain, native looks to carry this success into the 2020-2021 season.
 
Talented Newcomers Join Experienced Teammates
Brandon Perez, from Caracas, Venezuela, transferred to Nebraska after beginning his collegiate career at Virginia Tech. Perez was ranked the No. 1 junior player in Venezuela and climbed as high as No. 46 in the doubles rankings while at VT.
• A native of the southwestern German city of Stuttgart, Nic Wiedenhorn was a top-5 ranked player in Germany, as well as the under-16 German champion.
