Huskers Host B1G Invitational in Texas





The Nebraska track and field team will play host to the Husker B1G Invitational in Prairie View, Texas this weekend. The meet will be held at Prairie View A&M University’s track complex. All 13 Big Ten programs will be in action in Texas this weekend. Both days begin at 10 a.m. 

Husker Notes

Tyler Loontjer won the pole vault at the Indiana Big Ten Invitational #1 on March 26 with the fourth-best jump in school history. Loontjer cleared 17-10 1/2 (5.45m), a new personal best by four inches. 

Maddie Harris won the javelin title at the Indiana Big Ten Invitational #1 with a personal-best throw of 164-7 (50.17m), the No. 9 throw in school history. 

Burger Lambrechts Jr. was the runner-up in the shot put at the Indiana Big Ten Invitational #1 with an outdoor personal-best throw of 64-0 1/4 (19.51m). His mark moved him up to No. 5 in outdoor school history. 

Judi Jones won the 3,000-meter steeplechase title at the Indiana Big Ten Invitational #2. She posted a personal-best time of 10:04.75, the third-fastest time in school history. It marked Jones’ eighth career individual collegiate win on the track and second in the steeplechase. 

Dais Malebana cracked the all-time top-10 charts with a time of 3:43.87 in the 1,500 meters at the Indiana Big Ten Invitational #2. Malebana placed fourth overall in the race, and his time was the ninth-best ever in Nebraska outdoor history. 

Mirta Kulisic was the women’s javelin champion at the B1G North Florida Invitational. The freshman from Split, Croatia, threw a personal-best 167-6 (51.05m) to win the event with the No. 7 throw in Nebraska school history in just her second competition as a Husker. 

Joey Daniels posted a new personal-best time of 13.57 to earn runner-up honors in the 110-meter hurdles at the B1G North Florida Invitational. With wind aid, the Princeton transfer recorded the seventh-fastest time in school history.

• Both the Husker men and women placed fourth at the 2019 Big Ten Outdoor Championships in Iowa City, Iowa. Mayson Conner was the men’s high jump gold medalist in 2019 and is the lone Husker who holds claim to a Big Ten Outdoor gold medal. Conner was a second-team All-American at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the high jump, finishing in a tie for 12th at nationals. Lambrechts Jr. (shot put), Kusche (1,500 meters) and Siedhoff (110-meter hurdles) also achieved second-team All-America honors at the 2019 outdoor meet. Siedhoff was a first-team All-American in the 110-meter hurdles in 2018, finishing seventh at nationals.

Husker Event Groups Rank Among Nation’s Best

• A number of Nebraska track and field event groups rank highly in the USTFCCCA weekly #EventSquad rankings.

• The Husker men have the No. 2 unit in the 110-meter hurdles and the No. 4 triple jump squad.

• The Big Red women have the No. 7 javelin squad in the nation. 

• Individually, Joey Daniels ranks eighth in the nation in the 110-meter hurdles (13.57), and Burger Lambrechts Jr. is 11th in the shot put (64-0 1/4, 19.51m).

Judi Jones leads the Husker women with a No. 12 national ranking in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with her PR time of 10:04.75. 

Indoor Season Recap

• At the 2021 Big Ten Indoor Championships in February, four Huskers were crowned champions. Lambrechts Jr. won the shot put title with the second-best throw in school history and went on to be a first-team All-American with a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Papay Glaywulu won the men’s triple jump title and Lishanna Ilves won the women’s long jump, and both were NCAA Indoor qualifiers. Ieva Turke was the Big Ten women’s indoor triple jump champion for the second year in a row. 

In addition to Lambrechts, Glaywulu and Ilves, Kusche and Kevin Shubert were also NCAA Indoor qualifiers. Kusche finished 10th in the mile, and Shubert was 16th in the shot put in his first time at nationals. Both were second-team All-Americans. Kusche is the reigning Big Ten cross country champion and the school-record holder in the indoor mile and 3,000 meters.
