Huskers Hit the Road for Hawkeye Invitational

The Nebraska swimming and diving team will hit the water on Thursday, Dec. 1, for the three-day Hawkeye Invitational. Prelims begin each day at 10 a.m. (CT), with finals set at 5 p.m. (CT).

Nebraska will take on three Big Ten schools at the Iowa-hosted invitational, including Rutgers and Illinois. On Oct. 21, the Huskers defeated the Hawkeyes with a 175-123 final score. Lexi Kucera (100 freestyle, 200 freestyle) and Shannon Stott (200 butterfly, 500 freestyle) each claimed a pair of individual victories in the matchup. The Huskers are set to host Illinois on Jan. 21, and will travel to Piscataway, New Jersey for a dual with Rutgers, Jan. 27-28.

The Fighting Illini are sitting at 5-1 on the season, including in-state wins over Illinois State, Southern Illinois and Illinois-Chicago. Illinois dropped a lopsided dual, 203-92, to Northwestern on Oct. 29. Rutgers is 2-2 and notched its first-ever win over Purdue earlier this season, 191-162.

Iowa State and Northern Iowa are bringing divers to the invitational.

In NU’s recent intrastate dual with Omaha, Emily Haimes, Gena Jorgenson and Maia Hall each earned two individual wins.

Haimes has won three consecutive 100 butterfly races in the Iowa, Kansas and Omaha duals. She clocked a season-best 55.72 the last time she competed in Iowa City.

Jorgenson owns seven individual victories on the season, proving to be a consistent contributor for the Huskers in her freshman campaign. She has won the 1,000 freestyle on three occasions and placed in the top three in the 500 freestyle five times.

Hall is the top returning scorer from the 2022 Big Ten Championships for the Huskers and has won her last three 200 breaststroke swims. JoJo Randby joins Hall in consistently collecting top finishes in the breaststroke events. Randby raced to an impressive 100 breaststroke win in the Minnesota and South Dakota double-dual and has finished as runner-up in the event on four occasions this season.

Stott has been a leader in the butterfly and freestyle events. She will enter the Hawkeye Invite with back-to-back wins in both the 200 butterfly and the 500 freestyle.

Sarah Barton has provided five 200 butterfly finishes within the top three. She added a 400 IM victory at Kansas in her first time competing in the event this season.

Lexi Kucera has been a regular in NU’s top-performing relays, while also earning top placements in individual events with five top-three finishes in the 200 freestyle.

Sydney McCracken and Giulia Marchi have provided depth as underclassmen. McCracken has 10 top-five finishes this season with big performances in the breaststroke and individual medley events. Marchi has tallied 11 top-five finishes, including wins in the 100 and 200 freestyle events.

Berkeley Livingston has won the 1,000 freestyle twice and is expected to make a major impact in the individual medley and butterfly events as the season progresses.

Molly Rosenthal has been a crucial piece of the distance corps, notching a 1,000 freestyle win in the Omaha dual and gathering 11 top-five finishes throughout the young season.

In the diving well, Reagan Hinze and Kelsey Clairmont each earned a spot at the NCAA Zone Qualifier during the first dual of the season. They each have a pair of wins and have placed in the top five at every dual.

Results will be available through the Meet Mobile app.
