Nebraska hits the road this weekend for a three-game series at No. 23 Maryland in College Park, Md.

 

Friday’s series opener is set for 5:30 p.m. CT, while Saturday’s first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT. The series finale between the Huskers and Terrapins is set for 12 p.m. CT on Sunday.

Nebraska vs. Maryland

• Nebraska and Maryland have met 13 times on the baseball diamond, with the Terrapins holding a slim 7-6 advantage in the all-time series over the Huskers.

• The Huskers and Terrapins have faced off in a weekend series four times as Big Ten foes, with three of the four located in Lincoln.

• Nebraska is 0-3 all-time in College Park after the Terrapins swept the Big Red in 2015.

• The two teams last met in a three-game series in the 2021 campaign, where the Huskers won two of three games to claim the series win.

Speed & Power Combo

Brice Matthews is one of three players nationally with at least 17 home runs and 17 stolen bases this season.

• Matthews and North Carolina’s Mac Horvath are the only two players at the Power Five level with 17 homers and 17 stolen bases, joining Morehead State’s Ryley Preece.

All Three Facets

• Nebraska is one of two teams nationally to be ranked in the top 50 in all three facets of the game.

• The Huskers are ranked 30th in batting average (.304), 38th in earned run average (4.50) and 18th in fielding percentage (.980).

• Nebraska is the only Power Five school to be ranked in the top 50 of all three categories, while Oral Roberts (Summit League) is also ranked in the top 50 of all three categories.

 

Three’s Company

• Nebraska is one of 10 teams nationally with at least three players with 13 or more home runs this season.

Brice Matthews leads the Big Red with 17 homers, followed by Max Anderson and Gabe Swansen with 16 and 13 home runs, respectively.

• Nebraska is one of six Power Five schools with three players having 13-plus home runs, joining Florida (SEC), Georgia (SEC), LSU (SEC), Maryland (Big Ten) and South Carolina (SEC).

• FGCU (ASUN) leads the way with six players homering at least 13 times this season, while the remaining nine teams have three players reaching the 13-homer mark.

Numbers to Know

2 – This weekend’s road series marks the second time Nebraska plays at Maryland since joining the Big Ten in 2012.

6Brice Matthews (.392, 17 HR, 59 RBI) and Max Anderson (.385, 16 HR, 53 RBI) are two of six players nationally hitting at least .385 at the plate with 16-plus home runs and 53 or more RBI this season.

26 – Nebraska has scored first 26 times this season, holding a 20-5-1 record in those games.

9 – The Huskers have combined for nine individual multi-homer games this season, led by three from Max Anderson. The nine individual multi-homer games are the most by NU since at least 2000.

3 – With 197 career hits, Max Anderson is three hits shy of becoming the 27th Husker in program history to reach the 200-hit mark in his career at Nebraska.
