Huskers Drop Matchup At Penn State, 4-0

University Park, Penn. – Juniors Victor Moreno Lozano and Brandon Perez notch their first doubles win of the season at the No. 1 spot with a 6-4 defeat of Charl Morgan and Tim Ruetzel, but the Nebraska men’s tennis (0-11, 0-11 Big Ten) lost to the Penn State Nittany Lions (5-6, 5-6 Big Ten), 4-0, on Sunday morning at the Sarni Tennis Center.

In doubles play, Christian Lakoseljac and Christos Antonopoulo teamed up for a 6-2 win over junior William Gleason and sophomore Shunya Maruyama at the No. 2 position, and in the deciding No. 3 match, sophomore Albert Sprlak-Puk and freshman Nic Wiedenhorn fell to Sam Bossem and Miko Eala, 5-7.  

To start of singles play, Perez lost to Miko Eala in the No. 3 spot, 2-6, 3-6. At No. 2, Maruyama battled to take the first set to a tiebreak, but fell 6-7, 0-6 to Bora Sengul. Clinching the overall match for the Nittany Lions was Lakoseljac against Moreno in the No. 1 spot, winning 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.

 

At the conclusion of the match, Gleason was battling Antonopoulo in the third set and due to limited courts, the No. 5 matchup just got started and No. 6 never began.

The Huskers are back in action in Lincoln next weekend for their conference matchup against their border rival, as NU takes on Iowa, Sunday, April 4, at noon. Fans will be welcomed back for the first time this season and admission is free.
