Huskers Drop Matchup Against #8 Michigan

The Nebraska men’s tennis team (0-9, 0-9 Big Ten) came up short on Sunday, falling to the No. 8 Michigan Wolverines (8-1, 8-0 Big Ten) by a final score of 4-0 at the Dillon Tennis Center.  

The match began with doubles play. At the No. 1 spot, the No. 2 duo in the country of Andrew Fenty and Mattias Siimar topped William Gleason and Victor Moreno Lozano, 2-6. At No. 2, Connor Johnston and Harrison Brown defeated Patrick Cacciatore and Albert Sprlak-Puk, 4-6, to secure the doubles point for the Wolverines.

To start off singles play, Wiedenhorn lost a hard-fought match to Jacob Bickersteth at No. 5, 4-6, 1-6. At No 2, Maruyama matched up against Mattias Siimar, resulting in a 3-6, 2-6 loss. Getting the match win for the Wolverines was No. 14 Andrew Fenty in the No. 1 spot who battled Lozano and picked up the 6-3, 6-3 victory. 

 

Sprlak-Puk was up 5-4 in the second set against Patrick Maloney at No. 3, while Gleason and Cacciatore were battling at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively, when the match was called. 

Up next, the Huskers will travel to Columbus, Ohio to take on Ohio State on Friday, March 26.
