Huskers Defeat Bison In Final Exhibition Match, 8-0


Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska soccer team controlled on offense and defense from start to finish in its second exhibition match of the season, defeating North Dakota State, 8-0, in front of 663 fans at Barbara Hibner Stadium on Friday night.

Sophomore Eleanor Dale led the Huskers with two goals, heading the ball into the goal off of an assist from Dakota Chan in the 25th minute and scoring through the sliding Bison defenders in the 53rd minute. 

In the 45th minute, freshman midfielder Jordan Zade found the back of the net off of a turnover by the Bison to take a 2-0 lead.

Shortly after Zade’s goal, veteran Olivia Brown followed with one of her own, heading the ball past the Bison goalie from Katie Stoneburner’s short cross kick.

Sophomore Reagan Raabe scored in the 60th minute assisted by Theresa Pujado, and freshman Allison Napora found the back of the net off an assist from fellow freshman Sarah Weber.

In the 66th minute, Weber scored her third goal of the week as she broke through the Bison defenders and fired a shot, as the Huskers took a 7-0 lead.

Senior Kate Leachman scored the final goal of the night in the 73rd minute, as she shot the ball into the top right corner.

Sophomore Sami Hauk earned the start at goalkeeper playing 39 minutes. Freshman Cece Villa and sophomore Makinzie Short also saw action, but the Huskers recorded no saves as the Bison took no shots on the night. 

NU tallied 36 shots with 20 shots on goal. The Huskers also topped the Bison in corner kicks, 17-0.

The Huskers open their regular season on Thursday at Hibner Stadium against Western Illinois, with kickoff set for 7:05 p.m.
