Huskers Continue Non-Conference Play at Shocker Classic



The Nebraska softball team (14-6) continues its non-conference schedule as the Huskers travel to Wichita, Kan., this weekend, March 10-12, for the Shocker Classic. NU will face two teams including its seventh-ranked opponent in No. 23 Wichita State while playing a total of four games. 

 

The Big Red will open with Wichita State on Friday, March 10. The game is set to begin at 5 p.m. (CT). 

 

On Saturday, the Huskers will take on Missouri State at 12 p.m. (CT). Following the completion of game one, NU will take on the Shockers for the second time at approximately 2:30 p.m. (CT). 

Nebraska will finish the weekend with one game on Sunday. The Huskers will face the Bears at 12 p.m. (CT).

  • No. 23 Wichita State leads the American Athletic Conference in batting average (.326), doubles (30), home runs per game (1.26), on base percentage (.390), scoring (6.26) and slugging percentage (.573).
  • The Shockers also lead their conference in ERA (1.85), shutouts (6) and fielding percentage (.975). 
  • Senior Sydney McKinney leads the Wichita State offense with a .629 batting average and in hits with 39. Both numbers are first in the NCAA. 
  • Wichita State’s Lauren Lucas is second in the nation with 10 doubles this season. 
  • Missouri State averages 2.18 stolen bases per game, ranking second in the Missouri Valley Conference, and 24th in the NCAA.
  • Freshman Abby Ford leads the MVC in stolen bases with 13 on the season. That number ranks 22nd in the nation.
