Huskers Claim Three Event Titles In Win Over Iowa State

The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team claimed three event titles in their season opener against No. 20 Iowa State, winning 194.425-194.350. 

Senior Kynsee Roby claimed the vault title, after matching her career-high score of 9.800. Sophomore Kinsey Davis added the uneven bars title with a 9.825. 

Freshman Emma Spence made an impact in her collegiate debut, earning the all-around title. 

Rotation One

The Huskers started on uneven bars with a team score of 48.600. Kathryn Thaler led NU off sticking her landing and earning a 9.725. Clara Colombo followed with the second stuck landing on the event and a 9.800. Making her collegiate debut, Emma Spence earned a 9.675. Kynsee Roby followed with a 9.150. Kinsey Davis notched a 9.825 and claimed the event title. Freshman Emma Simpton rounded out the rotation with a 9.575. 

The Cyclones started off on vault and earned a team score of 48.575. Makayla Maxwell led ISU with a 9.775. 

Rotation Two

Nebraska kept its momentum going into the second rotation as the Huskers posted a 48.775 team score on vault. Kynsee Roby led NU with a 9.800, matching her career-high and earning the event title. Martina Comin followed closely with a 9.775.  Kylie Piringer notched a 9.750 while Spence and Ayzhia Hall each earned a 9.725. Davis finished the rotation with a 9.650. 

Iowa State had a strong performance on uneven bars earning a team score of 48.000. Maya Ford notched the high-score for the cyclones, finishing with a 9.800. 

Rotation Three

On floor, Piringer led the Huskers with a 9.775. Comin and Spence each notched a 9.750. Roby earned a 9.700 while Makayla Curtis recorded a 9.675. Ayzhia Hall finished with a 8.250 due to a fall. NU finished with a 48.650 on floor.

Meixi Semple led the Cyclones with a 9.800 on beam. The Cyclones earned a 48.200 on the event. 

Rotation Four

The Huskers finished on beam earning a team score of 48.400. Spence led the Huskers off with a 9.725. Curtis followed with a 9.750. Hall earned a 9.450 while Davis notched a 9.050. Thaler had a strong performance, earning a 9.700. Roby finished the night off with a 9.775. 

The Cyclones finished on floor, earning a team score of 48.900. ISU was led by Laura Cooke and Maddie Diab, both earning a 9.900. 

All-Around Competition 

Two Huskers competed in the all-around competition. Emma Spence claimed the title, finishing with a 38.875. Kynsee Roby finished in second with a 38.425.

Nebraska opens up home competition on Saturday, Jan. 15 against No. 19 BYU. The meet is set to start at 6:30 p.m. at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. It will be streamed live on BTN+.
