Lincoln, Neb.- The Nebraska Huskers men’s gymnastics competed at their final home meet of the season at the Devaney Sports Center on Saturday afternoon, hosting Illinois, Minnesota, and Iowa, where both seniors and alumni were honored for the night.
NU rallied throughout the meet to claim the victory with their second-best team score of the season with a score of 408.050. This marks the third undefeated season at home for the Big Red and 1,127 days since the last loss in Lincoln.
The Huskers collected a total of 3 event titles for the night with senior Charlie Giles posting a 15.05 on vault, earning the title. Junior Sam Phillips claimed the title on high bar with a score of 14.10, and senior Jake Bonnay taking the floor title with a 14.05.
Rotation One
Nebraska started off the night on parallel bars, where senior Dylan LeClair led the rotation posting a 13.45. Sophomore Taylor Christopulos followed with a 12.60, while teammate Liam Doherty-Herwitz notched a career-high score of 13.70 respectively. Junior Sam Phillips scored a 13.35. Dillan King anchored the rotation posting a 13.50.
At the end of the first rotation, Illinois leads after competing on vault with a score of 72.000. Nebraska trails closely with a 66.600, Minnesota with a 61.450 and Iowa 63.700 respectively.
Rotation Two
Moving on to high bar, Sam Phillips impressed with his strength after posting a career-high score of 14.10, good for the event title, and fueling the Huskers. Donte McKinney put up a 13.95, a career-best for the junior. Taylor Christopoulos followed by posting a 13.20. Senior Dillan King notched a 12.15 and Dylan LeClair finished with a 12.95.
After the second rotation, the Huskers tallied a score of 132.450, following in second place behind Illinois in first place with a 138.800. Minnesota and Iowa followed with 122.350 and 121.000 respectively.
Rotation Three
Senior Jake Bonnay led NU through the third rotation on floor after registering a 14.05 for the Huskers, claiming the floor title. Not far behind, Sam Phillips picked up the momentum notching a 13.65 while senior Charlie Giles scored 13.60. Freshman Chris Hiser put up a 13.30. Taylor Christopoulos concluded the floor rotation for the Big Red with a score of 13.35.
Nebraska moves into their fourth rotation closely following the Fighting Illini posting a score of 200.900 to 203.500 respectively. Minnesota Gophers post 187.550 and Iowa Hawkeyes notch a score of 185.350.
Rotation Four
The Cornhuskers sustained their energy in the fourth rotation as they transitioned to pommel horse where Taylor Christopulos registered a 13.80, a career-high for the sophomore. Charlie Giles collected a score of 14.00 on the event. Following behind, freshman Travis Wong put up a career-high 13.45 on pommel. Junior Yanni Chronpoulos scored a 13.05 and senior Khalil Jackson wrapped up the rotation with a 13.25.
Moving into the fifth rotation, Nebraska posted a score of 268.450. Illinois leads the four-team meet with a score of 270.450. Minnesota and Iowa present a score of 245.350 and 253.750 respectively.
Rotation Five
Liam Doherty-Herwitz displayed his talent on rings for the fifth event after collecting a career-high of 13.80. Junior Dylan Young earned a 13.75 for the Big Red and Yanni Chronopoulos followed with a 13.70. Junior Moritz Mueller put up a 13.35. Dylan LeClair notched a 13.45 to end the fifth rotation.
Going into the sixth and final rotation, NU still trails the Fighting Illini 336.500 to 338.650. Iowa holds the third place spot with a score of 315.550 and Minnesota follows with a score of 301.800.
Rotation Six
Nebraska came alive as they fired into their final rotation on vault with senior Charlie Giles registering an impressive score of 15.05 to light up the competition, and snatch the event title. Notably, the last Husker to notch a score above 15.00 was Anton Stephenson in 2019, an impressive mark for the current senior. Following closely behind, junior Donte McKinney posted a 14.70 for the squad, a career-high. Juniors Sam Phillip and Liam Doherty-Herwitz notched 14.10 respectively. Rounding off the rotation, Taylor Christopulos scored a 13.20 to conclude vault for Nebraska.
Nebraska rallied neck in neck with Illinois throughout the competition, pulling ahead in the final rotation to claim first place for the Huskers in their home territory of Lincoln, Neb. with a score of 408.050. Not far behind, Illinois registered a final score of 406.150, Iowa notched a 379.00 and Minnesota ended with a 358.500.

Nebraska is on the road back to Colorado Springs, Colo. for the second time this season to compete against Air Force and Army on Saturday, March 12 at Cadet West Gym. The meet is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. CT.
