Hiser Pockets Another B1G Freshman of the Week Honors

Chris Hiser has earned yet another weekly honor as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for a second consecutive week, announced by the Big Ten Conference on Monday afternoon. The honor follows his strong performance against Penn State on Saturday, Feb. 5.

The Longmeadow, Mass. native adds his second B1G honor after competing on floor during Saturday’s home opener. Hiser notched a career-best score of 13.85, topping his previous 13.45. The freshman claimed a third place title for the night and helped to drive the Huskers to success and claim the B1G win against the Nittany Lions.

Coach Chmelka commends Hiser’s diligence, noting that his “dedication to the sport is starting to pay off.”

Nebraska is currently ranked No. 2 in the nation on floor at 68.233, only one-tenth of a point behind No. 1 Oklahoma with a score of 68.333, despite the Huskers holding the NCAA national high score for floor at 69.050, the highest score in the Big Ten conference.

Penn State’s Michael Jaroh earned Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honors after an impressive performance competing in 5 events and claiming 2 event titles on horizontal bar (13.85) and still rings (14.35).

The No. 3 ranked Huskers are back in action in two weeks and set to collide with the No. 2 Oklahoma Sooners in Norman, Okla. at the McCasland Field House on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 6:00 p.m. CT.
