Four Gymnasts Named Big Ten Distinguished Scholars

The Nebraska men’s gymnastics team had four student-athletes named Big Ten Distinguished Scholars, the conference announced Thursday afternoon. Jake Bonnay, Moritz Mueller, Zach Peters and Dylan Young all earned Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors for the first time. 

Senior Jake Bonnay led the group, earning his first Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honor. Bonnay is a four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and has earned a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll six times. A College Gymnastics Association All-America Scholar-Athlete and Nebraska Bronze Academic Medallion recipient, Bonnay is set to return for the 2021-22 season. 

Senior Zach Peters earned his first Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honor. A three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, Peters has also been named a CGA All-America Scholar-Athlete three times. Peters has earned a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll five times and has been awarded the Nebraska Bronze Academic Medallion. Returning for the 2021-22 season, Peters is a leader in the gym and the classroom. 

Sophomore Moritz Mueller also earned his first Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honor. Mueller has earned Academic All-Big Ten honors as well as a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll four times. Mueller has also been named a CGA All-America Scholar-Athlete and an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar.

Sophomore Dylan Young rounds out the Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honorees. An Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Young has earned a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll four times. Young has also earned CGA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors. 

To be eligible for Big Ten Distinguished Scholar selection, student-athletes must be a recipient of Academic All-Big Ten recognition in the previous academic year, must have been enrolled full-time at the institution for the entire previous academic year and earn a minimum GPA of 3.70 or better during the previous academic year.
