Cooper Giles Earns NCAA Specialist of the Week Honors

Cooper Giles earned NCAA Specialist-of-the-Week honors for his performance on Sunday, Feb. 7 against Penn State. Giles becomes the second Husker gymnast to earn this award.

The sophomore earned the pommel horse title after notching a career-high score of 14.10. A Lake Zurich, Ill. native, Giles had the highest score on pommel horse throughout the NCAA for week 4 of competition. Giles currently has the second-highest score in the NCAA for the 2021 season.

“I couldn’t be more proud and happy for Cooper’s accomplishments so far. He’s a very hard-working and determined young man and strives for excellence,” said coach Chmelka.

This is Giles’ second pommel horse individual title and first weekly honor of his career.

The Huskers return to action this Saturday, Feb. 13 against Minnesota at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Neb. The meet will be live-streamed on BTN+ at 2:00 p.m. CT.
